Learning cities: recent developments

In the past months, CONSTELLATIONS has been designing and facilitating interactive workshops to promote better dialogue and learning among cities – between Chinese cities as well as between Chinese and European/ Asia cities – on sustainable urban development issues.

While such formats of interaction are not frequent in such contexts, this interactive process has been well received by the participants, mostly municipal representatives in various functions.

‘Strengthening City-to-City Learning’ with CDIA, the China Development Initiative for Asia, in Guiyang in September enabled looking at possible future activities to enable the sharing of good practices and learning between cities when it comes to finding infrastructure finance. Tips were shared among Chinese and Asia professionals.

In October, together with EC-LINK, Europe China Eco-Cities Link, a workshop on Sustainable Transportation in Changzhou enabled the EC-LINK pilot cities to share their experiences with ToD- Transit Oriented Development as well as tram and Bus Rapid Transit design and implementation.

The peer learning and sharing has been highly valued as the cities share similar concerns and challenges.
