As a means to foster grassroots initiatives for sustainability, the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung together with CONSTELLATIONS International initiated the program URBAN CAMPUS Chengdu in cooperation with the Sichuan University last October.
Following a call for proposals aimed at collecting ideas for projects around public participation and education for sustainability, four multidisciplinary teams of young professionals, NGO members and students joined a 3-month-long learning program. Interactive workshops, called Idea Labs, were designed to enable the teams to stretch their good ideas further to great ideas and prepare for the concrete implementation of the projects.
This ongoing program also features coaching and mentoring support to accompany the project teams in the course of the startup phase. Projects include: a sustainable citizens hub using a walking program designed to promote learning on sustainability and civic action; a DYI eco-café at Sichuan University as a platform for thinking and acting on green issues; Green Pockets, a consumer-farmer alliance; and Happy Recycling, an initiative at Sichuan University to promote new levels of awareness of resource management.
CONSTELLATIONS International is an agency offering ideas, concepts, management for learning, creating and collaborating owned by Katja Hellkötter and Magali Menant.
